What if I told you the biggest wooden ships EVER built weren't in Europe — they were in China!
The Incredible Voyage of Zheng He Begins!
Meet the Chinese explorer with ships bigger than anything Europe had ever seen!
Chinese Admiral Zheng He sailed ships bigger than football fields to explore the world!
Imagine a ship SO massive that it could fit Christopher Columbus's entire fleet on its deck — with room to spare! That's what Admiral Zheng He commanded when he set sail on his epic voyages starting in the early 1400s.
Zheng He was a Chinese explorer who served the Ming Dynasty emperor. On April 24, 1414, during his fourth great voyage, his massive treasure fleet was exploring the distant lands of the Indian Ocean, visiting places most people had never dreamed of!
Here's what made Zheng He's adventures SO amazing: His biggest ships were called 'treasure ships,' and they were about 400 feet long. That's longer than a football field! Compare that to Columbus's ships, which came later and were only about 85 feet long. Zheng He's fleet sometimes had over 300 ships and 28,000 sailors. That's like a floating city!
Zheng He visited more than 30 countries across Asia and Africa. He brought back incredible treasures — including a giraffe that the Chinese emperor thought was a magical creature called a 'qilin'!
💡 Zheng He's treasure ships were so big that Columbus's entire fleet could have fit on the deck of just ONE of them!
