What if YOUR city had a birthday party with bonfires, parades, and everyone jumping over flames?
Rome's Awesome Birthday Party!
How a city celebrated its founding with games, parades, and tons of fun
Ancient Romans threw the world's biggest birthday party for their city every April!
Imagine the biggest birthday party EVER! That's what happened in ancient Rome every year on April 21st (with celebrations lasting for days, including April 24th)!
The Romans called this mega-celebration the 'Parilia' — a festival so amazing it would make your birthday party look tiny! The whole city would come alive with music, dancing, and incredible parades through the streets.
Here's the coolest part: Romans believed their city was founded by two brothers named Romulus and Remus, who were raised by a WOLF! Can you imagine being fed by a giant wolf as a baby? The Romans thought this story made their city extra special.
During the festival, people would jump over bonfires (don't try this at home!), scatter flower petals everywhere, and feast on yummy treats. Farmers would lead their sheep and cows through special purifying smoke to keep them healthy all year.
💡 Romans believed Rome's founders were raised by a wild wolf — and they built statues of this wolf-mom all over the city!
