Rome's Birthday Bash: The City That Started an Empire!
How twin brothers and a wolf created one of history's greatest cities
Ancient Romans threw an epic birthday party for their city every year — with bonfires and parades!
Imagine throwing a birthday party for an entire city — and people still celebrating it over 2,700 years later! That's exactly what happens every April 26th in Rome, Italy!
According to ancient legend, Rome was founded on April 21, 753 BCE, but the Romans celebrated their city's founding festival called the Parilia around this time each year. It was HUGE!
Here's the amazing story: Twin brothers named Romulus and Remus were abandoned as babies near a river. But guess who found them? A WOLF! She took care of them like they were her own cubs. How wild is that?
When the brothers grew up, they decided to build a city. But they couldn't agree on where to build it. Romulus won the argument and named the city after himself — Rome!
💡 The legend says Romulus and Remus were raised by a wolf, and today you can still see wolf statues all over Rome celebrating this wild story!
