What if someone told you they could sail around the ENTIRE planet — would you believe them?

Ferdinand Magellan's Amazing Around-the-World Trip!

The brave explorer who proved Earth is really, truly round

Magellan's crew became the first humans EVER to sail completely around the world!

Imagine being the first person EVER to sail all the way around the entire planet! That was the dream of Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer with a wild idea.

In 1519, Magellan set sail from Spain with five ships and about 270 sailors. Their mission? To find a western route to the Spice Islands (that's Indonesia today) and prove you could sail around the whole world!

The journey was TOUGH. They crossed the Atlantic Ocean, discovered a tricky waterway at the bottom of South America (now called the Strait of Magellan), and then sailed across the ENORMOUS Pacific Ocean. Did you know it took them 99 days to cross the Pacific? That's over three months without seeing land!

Sadly, Magellan didn't finish the trip himself. On April 27, 1521, he was killed in a battle in the Philippines. But here's the amazing part — his brave crew kept going!

💡 The sailors ran out of food and had to eat sawdust, leather, and even rats to survive the Pacific crossing!
