What if you could prove the Earth was round by sailing around it yourself?

Magellan's Crew: First Around the World!

The incredible journey that proved Earth was REALLY round

Magellan's crew became the first humans EVER to sail completely around the world!

Imagine sailing into completely unknown waters for THREE WHOLE YEARS! That's exactly what happened to a brave crew of sailors who left Spain in 1519.

Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer with a BIG dream — he wanted to sail all the way around the world! On April 27, 1521, something sad but important happened. Magellan was caught in a battle in the Philippines and didn't survive. But here's where it gets amazing!

His loyal crew didn't give up. They kept sailing! Juan Sebastián Elcano took charge of the remaining ship, the Victoria, and led the exhausted sailors home.

Think about this: They started with 5 ships and about 270 men. Only ONE ship and just 18 sailors made it back to Spain in 1522. That's fewer kids than are probably in your classroom!

💡 The sailors got so hungry crossing the Pacific that they ate leather, sawdust, and even rats to survive — and they had to PAY for the rats!
