The Amazing Day Romans Honored Their Flower Goddess!
When Ancient Rome threw the biggest flower party ever
Ancient Romans threw a six-day flower party to honor Flora, the goddess of spring!
Imagine a city covered in colorful flowers, with everyone dancing in the streets and wearing flower crowns! That's exactly what happened every year in Ancient Rome during the festival called Floralia!
This awesome celebration honored Flora, the goddess of flowers and springtime. The Romans believed Flora made all the beautiful flowers bloom and helped crops grow. Pretty important job, right?
The Floralia festival started on April 28th and lasted for SIX whole days, ending on May 3rd! During this time, Romans decorated everything with flowers — their homes, temples, even their pets! People wore bright, colorful clothes instead of their usual white togas.
Here's something wild: Romans released hares and goats into the streets because these animals were symbols of Flora! Can you imagine rabbits hopping through your neighborhood during a parade?
💡 Romans released live rabbits during Floralia because they believed bunnies were Flora's special friends!
