What if your school had a six-day party where EVERYONE had to wear flowers?
Rome's Biggest Party: The Festival of Floralia!
When ancient Romans threw a flower-powered celebration that lasted SIX days!
Ancient Romans threw a 6-day flower party called Floralia starting May 1st!
Imagine a party so amazing it lasted almost a whole week! That's exactly what happened every year in ancient Rome during the Festival of Floralia, which kicked off around May 1st!
The Romans LOVED their goddess Flora, who was in charge of all the beautiful flowers, springtime, and new beginnings. To celebrate her, they threw one of the most colorful festivals in history!
Here's what made Floralia super special: Instead of wearing boring white togas, everyone dressed in bright, cheerful colors — yellows, greens, and especially flower patterns! Can you imagine thousands of Romans looking like a walking garden?
The streets were decorated with garlands of flowers everywhere you looked. People wore flower crowns on their heads (way before they became popular at music festivals!). There were games, theater performances, and even animal releases — Romans would set free goats and rabbits as symbols of new life and fertility.
💡 During Floralia, Romans released live rabbits and goats into the streets as symbols of spring — it was basically an ancient petting zoo party!
