What if your whole city threw a week-long party just to celebrate FLOWERS?
The Amazing Festival of Flowers in Ancient Rome!
When Romans threw the biggest flower party of the year
Ancient Romans had a week-long flower party with rainbow clothes and animals running free!
Picture this: It's ancient Rome, and the streets are BURSTING with colorful flowers everywhere! Welcome to the Floralia — the most beautiful festival in the Roman Empire!
Every year around May 2nd, Romans celebrated Floralia, a mega-party honoring Flora, the goddess of flowers and spring. Can you imagine a goddess whose only job was to make flowers bloom? How cool is that!
During Floralia, people wore bright, colorful clothes instead of their usual white togas. The streets looked like a rainbow had exploded! Romans decorated everything — their homes, temples, and even animals — with garlands of flowers.
But here's the really fun part: Romans released goats and hares into the streets! These animals were symbols of Flora because they loved to hop around in flowery meadows. Kids would chase them through the city in a giant game!
💡 During Floralia, it was the ONLY time Romans were allowed to wear bright colors instead of white — it was like ancient Rome's version of a costume party!
