What if your whole town turned into one giant flower garden for a week?

The Awesome Festival of Flowers in Ancient Rome!

When Romans threw the biggest flower party ever!

Ancient Romans threw a week-long flower party to celebrate the goddess Flora!

Imagine a whole city covered in flowers! That's exactly what happened every year in ancient Rome during a festival called Floralia. Starting on April 28th and lasting through May 3rd, Romans celebrated Flora, the goddess of flowers and springtime!

During Floralia, something magical happened. The streets were decorated with colorful blossoms everywhere! People wore bright, cheerful clothes instead of their usual white togas. Can you imagine everyone in your town wearing rainbow colors for a whole week?

Here's the really fun part — Romans would scatter flower seeds and beans into crowds! It was like confetti, but way cooler because those seeds would grow into beautiful plants. Kids ran through the streets playing games, and there were theater shows, races, and tons of food.

Did you know that Flora was considered so important that she had her very own temple on a hill called the Aventine? Romans believed that if they didn't celebrate her properly, their crops might not grow well!

💡 During Floralia, hares and goats were released into the streets because Romans thought they were Flora's favorite animals!
