Imagine a city covered in flowers, with people dancing in the streets and wearing colorful garlands in their hair. Welcome to the Floralia — Rome's most fabulous spring festival!
Every year starting around May 4th, ancient Romans celebrated Flora, the goddess of flowers and spring. And boy, did they know how to party!
Here's what made it so cool: The whole city transformed into a giant garden party that lasted SIX whole days! People decorated everything with roses, violets, and all kinds of beautiful blooms. Even serious Roman senators would wear flower crowns — can you imagine your principal wearing a daisy chain?
Did you know? Romans released hundreds of rabbits and goats into the streets because these animals represented springtime and new life. It was like the whole city became a petting zoo!
💡 During Floralia, Romans scattered dried beans and peas into the crowds as symbols of life and fertility — like ancient confetti!
