What if you could stand on top of the entire world, higher than the clouds and even some airplanes?

The Day We Climbed to the Top of the World!

How two brave explorers conquered Mount Everest for the first time ever

Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first humans to climb Mount Everest!

On May 29, 1953, something AMAZING happened! Two incredibly brave climbers — Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal — became the first people EVER to reach the very top of Mount Everest!

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth. How tall? Imagine stacking about 20 Empire State Buildings on top of each other — that's how high it reaches into the sky! It's so high that airplanes fly at the same altitude!

But here's the tricky part: the higher you climb, the less oxygen there is to breathe. It's like trying to run a race while breathing through a tiny straw! That's why scientists had to invent special oxygen tanks for the climbers to carry on their backs.

Hillary and Tenzing faced freezing temperatures (colder than your freezer!), howling winds, and dangerous ice. Many other explorers had tried before and failed. But these two worked as an incredible team!

💡 Tenzing Norgay left chocolates buried in the snow at the summit as an offering to the mountain spirits — some might still be up there!
