NASA's twin Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity became the greatest robot explorers ever!

Imagine driving a remote-control car... but your car is 34 MILLION miles away on another planet! That's exactly what happened on June 11, 2003, when NASA launched the first of two incredible Mars rovers named Spirit and Opportunity.

These twin robot explorers were about the size of a golf cart and packed with super cool science tools. They had cameras for eyes, a drill for an arm, and special sensors that could sniff out what rocks were made of!

Scientists gave them a mission: find proof that water once flowed on Mars. Why does that matter? Because where there's water, there might have been LIFE!

The journey to Mars took seven whole months. Can you imagine being in a car for that long? When Spirit finally landed in January 2004, scientists at NASA cheered so loud you could probably hear them from space!
