What if you could send a message in a bottle... but through SPACE instead of the ocean?

The Day Pioneer 10 Left Our Solar System!

The little spacecraft that traveled farther than anything humans ever built

Pioneer 10 became the first spacecraft to leave our solar system on June 13, 1983!

On June 13, 1983, something incredible happened way out in space. A spacecraft called Pioneer 10 became the very first human-made object to travel beyond all the planets in our solar system!

Pioneer 10 launched from Earth in 1972 with a big mission: visit Jupiter, the giant planet with the famous red spot. It zoomed through space for 21 months and sent back the first close-up photos of Jupiter. Scientists were thrilled!

But Pioneer 10 didn't stop there. It just kept going... and going... and going! On June 13, 1983, it crossed Neptune's orbit, which was the farthest planet's path at that time. No spacecraft had EVER gone that far before!

Here's something super cool: Pioneer 10 carries a special golden plaque with pictures of humans and a map showing where Earth is located. Why? In case any aliens ever find it! The plaque shows a man and woman waving hello, plus directions to find our planet.
