The Day a Boy King Became France's Longest Ruler!
How a 4-year-old started the most amazing royal journey in history
A 4-year-old became France's king and ruled for 72 years — longer than anyone in history!
Imagine becoming king when you're only four years old — too young to even tie your own shoes! That's exactly what happened to Louis XIV of France on June 23, 1643!
When his father King Louis XIII died, little Louis wasn't old enough to rule by himself. So his mother, Anne of Austria, and a clever minister named Cardinal Mazarin helped run the country while he grew up. But here's the wild part — Louis would go on to be king for an incredible 72 years! That's longer than most people live!
As Louis grew up, he became fascinated with the sun. He loved how powerful and bright it was, shining on everyone equally. So he called himself the 'Sun King' and even dressed in golden costumes covered in sun designs!
Louis built the most spectacular palace in the world: Versailles. It had over 2,000 rooms, including a Hall of Mirrors that was 240 feet long — that's almost as long as a football field! Nobles from all over Europe came to see its fountains, gardens, and glittering parties.
💡 Louis XIV loved dancing so much that he performed in 40 ballets and once danced for hours without stopping — he had special red-heeled shoes made just for him!
