What would YOU do if someone told you that you couldn't get what you wanted? Well, one king decided to change his entire country!

The Day a King Made England Say 'No' to the Pope!

How Henry VIII created his own church because he wanted a divorce

Henry VIII broke with the Pope and created his own church just to get a divorce!

On July 6, 1535, something HUGE happened that changed England forever! King Henry VIII was having a royal problem. He wanted to divorce his wife, Catherine of Aragon, but the Pope in Rome said, "Absolutely not!"

So what did Henry do? He decided to start his OWN church! And on this day, he had the Pope's biggest supporter in England — a super-smart man named Thomas More — put on trial for refusing to agree with the king's plan.

Thomas More had been Henry's best friend and most trusted advisor. He was the Chancellor of England, which is kind of like being the king's right-hand man! But More believed in following the Pope, and he wouldn't change his mind — not even for the king.

Here's where it gets interesting: Henry's decision to break away from the Pope and create the Church of England changed EVERYTHING. Suddenly, the king was in charge of religion in England, not someone in far-away Rome!

💡 Henry VIII had SIX wives in total, and there's a famous rhyme to remember what happened to them: "Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived!"
