What if YOU were sent to catch pirates... but then everyone said YOU were the pirate?
The Day a Brave Pirate Hunter Set Sail!
Meet the daring captain who chased pirates across the seven seas
Captain Kidd went from pirate hunter to accused pirate — and his treasure is still lost!
On July 9, 1701, something exciting happened in New York Harbor. A man named William Kidd was about to face trial for being a pirate! But here's the twist — Captain Kidd didn't start out as a pirate at all. He was actually hired to CATCH pirates!
Imagine being given a super-fast ship and told to hunt down the bad guys of the sea. That's exactly what happened to Captain Kidd! The King of England himself gave Kidd a special mission: sail the oceans and capture pirates who were stealing treasure from English ships.
But things got really complicated. While Kidd was far from home, sailing near Africa and India, some people said HE became a pirate! Did he steal treasure? Was he framed by his enemies? It's one of history's greatest mysteries!
Captain Kidd swore he was innocent. He said he only attacked ships that belonged to England's enemies, which was totally allowed. But powerful people wanted to blame him, and back then, it was really hard to prove you were innocent.
💡 In 2015, explorers found a silver bar off the coast of Madagascar that they believe came from Captain Kidd's ship — the first piece of his legendary treasure found in over 300 years!
