What if one person's big ideas could help create an entire country's freedom?
The Day John Locke Was Born!
Meet the philosopher who inspired America's biggest ideas!
John Locke was born and grew up to inspire America's ideas about freedom and rights!
On August 29, 1632, a baby was born in a cozy English village who would grow up to change how people think about freedom and fairness!
John Locke was curious about EVERYTHING. He studied medicine, science, and philosophy — that's the study of big questions like 'What makes a good life?' and 'How should people be treated?'
Here's what made Locke so special: he believed that EVERY person is born with natural rights. What are those? The right to life, liberty, and property! He thought no king or queen could just take those away.
But wait — there's more! Locke had a wild idea that was pretty unusual back then. He believed that if a government was mean and unfair to its people, those people had the RIGHT to change it! Can you imagine saying that when kings thought they could do whatever they wanted?
💡 Thomas Jefferson loved John Locke's ideas so much that he basically borrowed them when writing the Declaration of Independence!
