What if you became king of an entire country before you were even old enough for kindergarten?
The Day King Louis XIV Was Born!
The baby who would become the most famous king in all of Europe
A French baby born on this day would rule as king for an incredible 72 years!
On September 5, 1638, something incredible happened in France — a baby was born who would change history forever! His name was Louis XIV, and he would grow up to be called the 'Sun King' because he believed everything in France should revolve around him, just like planets orbit the sun!
But here's the crazy part — Louis became king when he was only FOUR YEARS OLD! Can you imagine being in charge of an entire country before you even learned to read? Of course, grown-ups helped him rule at first, but young Louis was already watching and learning.
When Louis grew up, he did some absolutely jaw-dropping things. He built the Palace of Versailles, one of the most magnificent buildings ever created! It had 700 rooms, 2,153 windows, and gardens so huge you could walk for hours without seeing everything. The Hall of Mirrors alone had 357 mirrors — imagine checking your hair in THAT!
Louis loved art, music, and dancing. He even performed in ballets himself! He made France the most powerful country in Europe and the center of fashion. If you wanted to be cool in the 1600s, you copied what French people wore.
💡 Louis XIV loved ballet so much that he created the first professional dance company in the world, and many ballet terms are still French today because of him!
