Here's the awesome story behind it: Long ago, the people of Athens moved from one neighborhood to another. Instead of being grumpy about moving (like when you have to change schools), they decided to celebrate! They wanted to thank the gods for helping them become good neighbors in their new home.

During the Metageitnia, Athenians would gather together, share food, sing songs, and make offerings to Apollo. It was like a giant block party, but ancient Greek style! People would bring honey cakes, fruit, and other yummy treats to share with their neighbors.
