On September 11, 1831, a 22-year-old named Charles Darwin received the most exciting letter of his life. He was officially invited to join HMS Beagle on a voyage around the world!

Imagine being fresh out of college and getting asked to sail to mysterious islands, tropical rainforests, and places most people only dreamed about. That's exactly what happened to young Charles!

The ship's captain needed a smart scientist to study rocks, plants, and animals along the way. Darwin wasn't even the first choice — someone else said no! Lucky for science, Darwin said YES!

His father thought it was a terrible idea. 'A waste of time!' he grumbled. But Darwin's uncle convinced his dad to let him go. Phew!
