What if you were so shy you couldn't talk to anyone — but smart enough to weigh a whole PLANET?

The Day Henry Cavendish Was Born!

Meet the shy scientist who weighed the entire Earth

Super-shy scientist Henry Cavendish figured out how to weigh the entire Earth!

On October 10, 1731, a baby named Henry Cavendish was born in Nice, France. He would grow up to become one of the most brilliant — and most mysterious — scientists ever!

Henry was SO shy that he barely talked to anyone. He would leave notes for his servants instead of speaking to them! If someone tried to talk to him at a party, he might just run away. But don't let his shyness fool you — his brain was absolutely amazing!

Here's the coolest thing Henry did: he figured out how to WEIGH THE EARTH! Yep, the whole planet! Using a clever experiment with lead balls and super-thin wires, he calculated that Earth weighs about 6 trillion trillion kilograms. That's a 6 followed by 24 zeros! How heavy is that? Imagine 6 billion trillion elephants all smooshed together!

Henry also discovered hydrogen gas — that super-light stuff that makes balloons float up to the sky! He called it "inflammable air" because it could catch fire with a spectacular whoosh!

💡 Henry Cavendish was so shy that he added a back staircase to his house so he wouldn't accidentally bump into his servants!
