What would you do if everyone said you couldn't do something just because you were a girl?
The Day Maria Theresa Was Crowned Queen of Hungary!
How a young mom became one of Europe's most powerful rulers
A brave 24-year-old proved everyone wrong and became one of Europe's greatest rulers!
On October 13, 1741, something amazing happened in the beautiful city of Pressburg (now called Bratislava). A 24-year-old woman named Maria Theresa officially became Queen of Hungary — and she did it while being a new mom!
Here's the thing: when Maria Theresa's father died, lots of powerful kings said, "Hey, a woman can't rule all those lands!" They wanted to take her empire away from her. Can you imagine? But Maria Theresa wasn't about to give up!
She traveled to Hungary and asked the Hungarian nobles for help. She was so brave and spoke so well that the Hungarian knights drew their swords and shouted, "We will die for our king, Maria Theresa!" (They called her "king" because they'd never had a ruling queen before!)
Maria Theresa went on to rule for 40 whole years. She made schools better so more kids could learn to read. She created hospitals and made laws to help poor families. She even had 16 children of her own — including one daughter who would become the famous Marie Antoinette!
💡 Maria Theresa had 16 children AND ruled an empire at the same time — talk about multitasking!
